Notes for Contributors

  1. Journal of Museum and Culture (JMC) welcomes national and international scholars to contribute their manuscripts, in order to enhance the academic research quantity and quality of museums, expanding theory and perspectives regarding museology in modern culture development, as well as providing a published space for original academic papers.

  2. JMC publishes two volumes semiannually in June and in December. Manuscripts are accepted in a yearlong base and they will be reviewed as soon as JMC receives. Submissions are not limited to the latest theme.

  3. By academic papers JMC refers to research articles, review articles, and research notes etc. Research articles are papers detailing the results of original research projects. Review articles include papers which reflect on research conducted in domestic and international sectors or those that comment on key issues related to contemporary museum studies. Research notes concern reports of significant empirical research findings or discussions of specific research topics. JMC also welcomes  articles of exhibition reviews and book reviews and publishes special issues for which it actively invites contributions.

  4. Principles of Writing Manuscripts:

    1. Submitted manuscripts can be either in Chinese or English and shall be noted which category it belongs. Please type from left to right within Microsoft Word ®. The word limitation is no more than 30,000 words for Chinese academic papers and 12,000 words for English ones (including full paper, Chinese and English abstracts, Chinese and English keywords, captions of tables and figures and references); In terms of Exhibition Review and Book Review, the shall be no longer than 5,000 words in Chinese version and no longer than 2,000 words in English based on word count in Microsoft Word ®.

    2. Manuscripts of academic papers are required to attach both Chinese and English abstracts (up to 500 words in Chinese and 200 words in English) and 3-5 keywords in both languages as well; Abstracts shall summarize research purposes, methodology and results or context.

    3. Manuscripts shall be edited by the following order: a cover page (with Chinese and English titles), brief introduction of the author, Chinese and English abstracts and keywords, content of the paper (footnotes on each page), appendix, references. The acknowledgements shall be added after the manuscript is accepted to publish. They shall be put right after the full paper and no longer than 60 words.

    4. Any personal details are not allowed to appear on content of the full paper as well as Chinese and English abstracts. Brief introduction of the author (Chinese and English names, organization, title, contact address, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address) shall be described on another page.

    5. Submitted manuscripts must be written in the style according to the Publication Manual of JMC. Website databases cited in the paper should indicate the browsing date in the footnotes. Electronic journals and books from the internet should be listed in the reference. Sample formats of referencing Chinese and English books and journals are as follows:

  5. Methods of Submission: In addition to manuscripts, the author's basic profile and copyright license agreement are required (Please download in JMC's website and scan the form within signature into PDF format, the website link is download here). Please submit manuscripts via e-mail. If the file is too large, then please send a CD-ROM by mail.

  6. JMC is not responsible for copyright issues (such as figures and tables, pictures and long citation, etc.). Authors are required to perceive authorization from copyright holders. If manuscripts are submitted into other published journals, disobeying academic ethics or infringing others' copyrights, the journal will not accept the author's submission within two years and the author shall be responsible for related legal responsibility.
  7. If papers are accepted, the author can obtain moral rights while Chinese Association of Museums (CAM) can have authorization of economic rights below: contributors agree that CAM can have the right to use manuscripts to be re-printed, edited, and published without being limited in any space, period, times, and content via forms such as journals, proceedings, CD-ROM, digital archives, uploading into internet and so on. Accordingly, papers can be set on World Wide Websites for readers and researchers to look up, browse, download and print in non-profitable condition.
  8. Methods of Manuscript Review:
    Principles of manuscript review in JMC include preliminary review, primary review and re-review. JMC shall deal with contributed manuscripts as soon as possible. No matter manuscripts are adopted or not, JMC shall reply current results via mailed letters within three months.
    1. Preliminary Review:
      The editorial office reviews formats and layouts of submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts which are consist with JMC's academic quality and format requirement will be submitted to review formally; for what are unqualified, JMC will withdraw manuscripts with explanation or request revision submitted to journal.

    2. Primary Review:
      1. Manuscripts pass the preliminary review will be then anonymous peer reviewed primarily by two reviewing members hired by the editor-in-chief or the editorial board.
      2. Opinions regarding primary review are divided into four categories:
        (1) Accepted(recommended) to be published.
        (2) Revision submitted to journal, to be published directly after amendment.
        (3) Revision submitted to journal, review again after amendment.
        (4) Rejected to the author, not to be published.
      3. If two reviewing members hold different views on the same manuscript, the editorial board will hire the third member to review anonymously. The review standard and the form are the same as primary review opinion form.
    3. Re-review:
      1. JMC will send a notification letter to those whose manuscripts are suggested "Revision submitted to journal" by reviewing members. Authors shall revise manuscripts in two weeks and submit to the editorial office so that the original reviewers will then re-review. JMC will decide whether the manuscript is accepted or not according to the re-review result.
      2. There are three categories of re-review opinions:
        (1) Accepted in the re-review, publishable.
        (2) Shall amend based on re-review opinions, accepted directly after amendment.
        (3) Rejected to the author, not to be published.
  9. Principles of Review Process:
    1. The editorial board will actively realize members' reviewing quality and establish a database of reviewers. It will be the source for recommending reviewers to increase levels of academic journals.

    2. The editorial board is in charge of recommending suitable and professional reviewers to build up the reviewer list. Meanwhile the board shall evaluate vital interest between contributors and reviewers to ensure JMC's review mechanism.
    3. Whether during or after the review, the editorial board and the JMC editorial office take responsibility for confidentially keeping details of contributors and reviewers.
  10. Manuscript Withdrawal:
    1. To avoid wasting resources, if contributors request JMC to withdraw his/her submitted manuscripts, the JMC will not accept the same person's submission in the following two years.

    2. After the preliminary review, contributors shall revise their manuscripts and reply to the JMC editorial office within two weeks once receiving the "revision submitted to journal" notification letter. Otherwise, the manuscripts will be considered withdrawal.
    3. For those who have special reasons, e-mails with literal explanation might be accepted to extend the submission deadline.
  11. JMC holds the rights to delete or adjust words toward accepted papers when editing is required.
  12. Rectification and Offprints:
    1. Authors are responsible for proofreading manuscripts after the editing progress is done. The editorial office is only in charge of checking the format.

    2. JMC editorial office will deliver five volume copies of "Journal of Museum and Culture" to authors free of charge and authors will not get extra paid.
  13. Manuscript Submission:
